All the glitz and glamour of Hollywood came to Cessnock East Public School on Tuesday with the staging of the very first 'Eastcars' (Cessnock East's version of Hollywood's Oscars). There were smiles all round from the Stars, the students, who were welcomed back to school for 2018 by their adoring fans, the Staff. Students were met at the school gate by fans, autograph hunters and the paparazzi, all clamouring to see the stars walk down the red carpet, with many being interviewed by Celebrity Reporter, Chuck Awobbly, for Star TV.
A Stretch Limousine with accompanying tuxedo wearing 'Limo Driver', provided the perfect backdrop as the Stars eagerly awaited to see which Teacher would win the highly coveted 'Eastcar', to determine their roll class. Excitement filled the air as nominations from a quality field of contenders were read out by the Official Master of Ceremonies, Mr Simmons. Mrs Sweeny, our Principal was crushed when Year 6 was handed over to Miss Hicks when Mrs Sweeny's name was misread as the winner! Students and their families were delighted with the winners with everyone eagerly looking forward to experiencing another year of educational fun and learning success at Cessnock East.
To further immerse our students in their project 'Lights. Camera, Action' and showcase an exemplar production, students in Year 1 through to Year 6 travelled to Sydney the next day to see the theatre production "The Wizard of Oz".
Thus begun the new year at Cessnock East Public School.
The school continues to be at the forefront of educational excellence and 21st Century learning as demonstrated by the starting of this terms 'Lights, Camera, Action' school wide project. Our school has been engaging our students in REAL projects for the third year running gaining outstanding student results.
